The Role of the National Association of School Psychologists in Promoting Positive School-Wide Practices (NASPSPA)
The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) is a professional organization that was established in 1969 to promote the education and well-being of children and adolescents within the school system. NASP works to ensure that school psychologists are adequately trained and have the resources to provide the best possible services to students. NASP is also dedicated to advocating for the recognition of school psychology as an essential component of the educational system (NASP, 2020).
One of the primary roles of NASP is to provide guidance and resources to school psychologists in the implementation of positive school-wide practices. NASP has developed a set of standards of practice for school psychologists that outlines the roles and responsibilities of school psychologists in promoting positive school-wide practices, such as positive behavior interventions and supports, social-emotional learning interventions, and crisis intervention (NASP, 2020). Additionally, NASP has developed a number of resources to support school psychologists in their work, such as the National Standards for School Psychology, the Professional Practices in School Psychology, and the School Psychologist Toolkit (NASP, 2020).
NASP is also committed to advocating for positive school-wide practices on the national level. NASP actively engages in legislative activities to support appropriate and effective school-wide practices, such as promoting legislation that increases access to mental health services and supports, and advocating for the use of evidence-based practices in schools (NASP, 2020). Additionally, NASP provides training and technical assistance to school districts, states, and other organizations to ensure that positive school-wide practices are implemented and maintained (NASP, 2020).
The National Association of School Psychologists has played a critical role in promoting positive school-wide practices in the United States. Through its standards of practice, resources, legislative activities, and technical assistance, NASP has been successful in supporting school psychologists in their efforts to provide the best possible services to students and ensure that positive school-wide practices are implemented and maintained.
