NATIONAL RESEARCH COUNCIL

The National Research Council (NRC) is an independent, non-governmental body that advises the Government of Canada on scientific, engineering, and technology matters. Established in 1916, the NRC has been a trusted source of scientific advice for over 100 years. The NRC provides advice on a range of topics, from the development of new technologies and the management of research projects to the evaluation of government policy.

The NRC is organized into four main research divisions: the National Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). Each division is responsible for different areas of research, including natural sciences, engineering, health, social sciences, and humanities.

The NRC is also involved in a variety of initiatives that promote research in Canada. These include the Canadian Institutes of Advanced Research (CIAR), the Canada Research Chairs Program, the Canada Excellence Research Chairs Program, and the Canada-Wide Science and Technology Networks. The NRC also provides resources and support to emerging researchers, including funding for research and travel grants.

The NRC is a key player in the advancement of science and technology in Canada. Through its research divisions, the NRC supports research excellence, encourages collaboration, and provides advice on policy and program development. The NRC is committed to fostering a vibrant research environment and to promoting innovation and excellence in science and technology.
