POLIOMYELITIS

11. an inflammatory process as a result of a viral infection. In mild cases it is marked by headache, fever, vomiting, and sore throat, which commonly go away within three days of onset. In more severe cases, the inflammation impacts the gray matter of the spinal cord and might cause muscular weakness and/or paralysis, that can impact the muscles managed by autonomic nerves, in addition to skeletal muscles, so that swallowing, breathing, or like operations are disturbed. Mental troubles might occur as a secondary impact of breathing troubles. Commonly referred to as infantile paralysis- polio.
