a personality style in which the individual behaves as if he or she was well adjusted, but in fact is doing only what is expected and is therefore unable to behave in a genuine or spontaneous manner. This condition has reportedly been observed in individuals with schizophrenia before they exhibit psychotic symptoms, particularly in the early prodromal phase |first described in 1942 by U.S. psychologist Helene Deutsch (1884-1982)
