Nucleus Accumbens: The Brain’s Pleasure Center

The nucleus accumbens (NAc) is a brain structure located in the ventral striatum, which is a part of the basal ganglia. It is an area of the brain that is related to reward, motivation, and pleasure, and is often referred to as the brain’s “pleasure center” (Eisenberger, Schulkin, & Lieber, 2020). Behavioral Functions

The NAc plays an important role in reward and motivation. It is involved in the processing of rewards, such as food, sex, and drugs (Kelley, 2004).
