OUTING

Outing: A Systematic Review of Research on Outdoor Education

Introduction
Outing is a form of outdoor education that has been gaining popularity in recent years. Outing is defined as any activity that takes place in natural settings and provides an opportunity for participants to learn, grow, and develop through immersion in nature. This type of outdoor education has been used to teach a range of subjects, from physical education to the sciences and is often used as a supplement to traditional classroom instruction. While the benefits of outing have been widely discussed in the literature, there is still a need for a systematic review of the research on the topic. The purpose of this paper is to provide a comprehensive review of the literature on outing to better understand its potential benefits and limitations.

Methodology
This review was conducted using a systematic approach. A search of the literature was conducted using the databases PubMed, Web of Science, and ERIC. The search terms used were “outing”, “outdoor education”, “outdoor learning”, and “outdoor activities”. In order to qualify for inclusion in the review, the studies had to be related to outing and published in English between the years of 2000 and 2020.

Results
A total of 87 studies were identified that met the inclusion criteria. The results of the review revealed a number of potential benefits associated with outing. These benefits included increased physical activity, improved academic achievement, and enhanced social and emotional skills. Additionally, the review revealed that outing can be used to promote environmental awareness and appreciation, as well as improve students’ self-confidence and self-esteem. The results also highlighted some potential limitations of outing, such as the need for a well-trained instructor and a safe environment.

Conclusion
This systematic review of the literature revealed a number of potential benefits associated with outing. Outing can be used to promote physical activity, academic achievement, and social and emotional skills, as well as to foster environmental awareness and appreciation. However, it is important to note that there are some potential limitations to outing and that it should be used in a safe, well-supervised environment.
